Residential Counselor (Overnight Awake)-Part Time

JOB TITLE: Residential Counselor (Overnight Awake)

LOCATION/SCHEDULE: On-site; Days and Night shifts available, Part- Time

CITY/STATE/COUNTY: Wilmington, NC – New Hanover County

SALARY: $17.05/hour for Part Time positions


POSITION SUMMARY:

Energetic, committed persons needed to provide direct care for youth in a facility for runaway, homeless, street, emergency foster care and long-term residential care. Facilitates supervision, recreational activities, life skills coaching/training, and day-to-day shelter/residential management (including meal prep, residential maintenance) in Open House Emergency Youth Shelter & Residential Services for children and youth, ages 6-18. Provides direct program and services to youth in a twenty-four-hour residential environment, along with providing twenty-four-hour crisis intervention and direct services for walk in clients.

POSITION HIGHLIGHTS:

  • Provides direct program and services to youth and their families, along with providing information and treatment services while the adolescent resides in a twenty-four-hour residential shelter program.
  • Maintaining coverage for crisis and walk-in clients who need direction, assistance, and support due to a crisis in their lives.
  • Provide services which include individual, family, and group direct services, manage the staffing and delivery of all physical and leisure time needs for youth, work with youth on their educational and school progress, and assure they are provided with food, shelter, medical services, and basic physical needs.
  • Provide appropriate intervention techniques and make appropriate referrals.
  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule and shifts which can include overnights, weekends, holidays, and extended periods of time.
  • Must show documentation of a physical exam and TB test prior to employment.
  • Must provide a negative drug screen prior to employment.
  • Successfully complete a criminal background check
  • Subject to OSHA rules and regulations on blood borne pathogens due to the possible exposure to various body fluids.

REQUIRED EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Applicants must be 21 years or older
  • Associates (2) year college/university degree in human services or related field or higher
  • One year of experience in counseling or working with youth
  • Current North Carolina Drivers license with evidence of good driving record.
  • Current CPR/First Aid Certification OR ability to obtain
  • A valid driver’s license and/or government-issued ID is required. Must have reliable transportation.
  • Drug screen, national/state criminal record, NC Health Care AND Sex Offender Registry, and NC DSS Responsible Individual List Checks REQUIRED.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

  • 16-hours of on-the-job training provided.
  • Provide crisis intervention support for walk-in clients, as well as making community referrals.
  • Responsible for care of residential shelter clients including but not limited to: client intake and plan assessments, on-going interaction with all agencies and/or individuals involved with clients and arranging supportive service and be available as a court advocate.
  • Document contact intervention forms and daily client chart documentation.
  • Plan and supervise educational and recreational activities for clients.
  • Perform various duties associated with food preparation and general clean up of the residential shelter.
  • Participate in staff meetings, trainings, and other duties as assigned.
  • Transportation for clients to such activities as: schools, physical examinations, appointments, recreational activities, etc.
