Intensive Intervention Specialist

JOB TITLE: Intensive Intervention Specialist

LOCATION: On-site

CITY/STATE/COUNTY: Wilmington, NC – New Hanover County

SCHEDULE: Full-Time, 40hrs/week

REQUIRED EDUCATIONAL/QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Completion of Bachelor’s Degree, within Human Service field preferred.
  • Meets requirements under 10A NCAC 27G.0104 as a Qualified Professional for Mental Health.
  • Preferred graduation from an accredited program with a Master’s degree in a human services or related field and two years of progressive child and family mental health/substance use counseling experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Field experience working with multi-problem children and families and overall ability to relate to and
  • engage with these families.
  • Ability to maintain a flexible work schedule.
  • Understanding of the Intensive Family Preservation (IFPS) philosophy and intervention strategies is essential.
  • Willingness and ability to participate in initial and ongoing training provided by Juvenile Justice & Delinquency Prevention staff or trainers coordinated by the North Carolina Department of Public Safety.

JOB POSTING:

Performs therapeutic interventions in the home and community settings with the identified youth and their family. The staff adhere to strict implementation of the IFPS Model. Extended functions under this role to include screening and assessment, psychotherapeutic interventions, and case management.

  • Provide direct services through community agencies and in-home services to support family preservation.
  • Deliver one-on-one interventions such as skill building activities, intervene with positive behavioral supports, enhance consumer’s knowledge of interpersonal and community relational skills.
  • Willing to deliver services in a wide range of community settings such as detention centers, schools, homes, jails, libraries, homeless shelters, and any other applicable locations deemed appropriate and safe.
  • Be available as part to ensure 24/7/365 crisis response. Face-to-face crisis management must be available.
  • Perform intake, assessment, referral, and evaluation of the social and daily living needs of clients to ensure seamless transition from this enhanced service.
  • Provides supportive and informational counseling to include crisis intervention, case management, and the development of collateral contacts.
  • To have a network of agency contacts and resources to fulfill the socioeconomic needs of the clients.
  • To assist clients with transportation to and from needed services.
  • To assist clients with housing, employment, social, legal and educational needs, by connecting them with community services.
  • Complete DJJ forms and Service Plan with consumer.
  • Subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions and exposed to hazards such as fumes, orders, dusts, mists, gases or poor ventilation and may require the employee to work in close quarters.
  • May be exposed to human body fluids and are subject to the OSHA requirements on blood borne pathogens.
  • Ability to ensure compliance with standards outlines through the written grant and expectations within.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

  • Considerable knowledge of mental health and substance abuse disorders.
  • Individual and family counseling for youth and families
  • Considerable knowledge of available community resources, services and the coordinating efforts needed for clients with mental health and substance abuse problems.
  • Prior experience with adhering to evidence-based practices.
  • Ability to respectfully represent the agency and establish a rapport with the community.
  • Ability to determine appropriate community services and agencies needed to meet client needs.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written forms.
  • Ability to network and coordinate efforts between outreach, treatment, and other support systems for the clients.
  • Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of climbing, stooping, crouching, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, standing, walking, fingering, grasping, talking, and hearing.
  • Must be able to perform sedentary work exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift objects.
  • Must possess visual acuity to perform extensive reading and determine the accuracy of work assigned.
