School Based Behavioral Health Coordinator-- New Hanover County

JOB TITLE: School Based Behavioral Health Coordinator-- New Hanover County

SCHEDULE: FULL TIME


REQUIRED EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Graduation from an accredited University with a master’s degree in human services and two (2) years of progressive experience in behavioral health assessment and treatment.
  • Full licensure as a Psychological Associate, Professional Counselor, or Clinical Social Worker. Dual licensure as a Clinical Addictions Specialist preferred.
  • One (1) year experience of behavioral health supervisory skills preferred.

SUMMARY OF POSITION:

Provides direct services for agency clients to include but not limited screening for admission, comprehensive clinical assessments, person-centered planning/treatment planning, crisis planning, crisis intervention, individual and group therapy, and case management. Provides intake coordination to include review of intake paperwork, schedule coordination, and training. Triages and manages open access/walk-in services. Provides administrative supervision and program oversight, such as streamlining processes, managing workflows and ensuring compliance and productivity of staff.

POSITION HIGHTLIGHTS:

  • Perform intake, assessment, referral, and evaluation of client needs in the school based and school linked settings of New Hanover county
  • Reviews documentation and perform compliance audits on behavioral health staff documentation
  • Coordinates schedules of clinicians
  • Provide training of new clinicians and staff as needed
  • Triages and manages open access/walk-in services
  • Provides clinical supervision and program oversight specific to streamlining processes, managing workflow and ensuring productivity of behavioral health staff
  • Provides supportive and informational counseling to include crisis intervention, case management, and the development of collateral contacts
  • Maintain an understanding of community resources and services offered by community partners to best support all clinical needs of the individuals served
  • Provides independent diagnostic, psychosocial and substance use evaluations and counseling which focus on treating the whole person
  • Maintain clinical licensure to provide in-depth counseling, which can range from crisis intervention to treatment of mental health and substance use disorders, and follow-up via the use of a variety of evidenced based modalities
  • Develop and maintain a strong collaborative and working relationship with assigned sites in New Hanover Co such as schools, medical settings, afterschool settings, etc.
  • Subject to inside environmental conditions and exposed to fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases or poor ventilation and subject to work in close quarters. Employee may be exposed to human body fluids and is subject to the OSHA requirements on blood borne pathogens

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:

  • Thorough knowledge of substance use and mental health assessment techniques, DSMV diagnostic classifications, and person-centered planning.
  • Considerable knowledge of available community resources, services and the coordinating efforts needed for clients.
  • Ability to determine appropriate community services, levels of care and agencies needed to meet client needs and provide recommendations to supervisees.
  • Ability to network and coordinate efforts between outreach, treatment, and other support systems for the clients.
  • Considerable knowledge of the practical application of different therapeutic approaches, psychological interventions, group dynamics, crisis intervention, and family therapy.
  • Ability to formulate treatment goals and to record concisely required documentation and provide feedback to supervisees regarding documentation.
  • Ability to effectively supervise and manage staff as well as train and oriented professional and support staff, including volunteers and interns.
  • Knowledge of laws, regulations, and policies that govern the program.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, disease processes and psycho-pharmacology.
  • Skill in establishing rapport with a client and/or family and applying techniques of assessing psychosocial, behavioral, and psychological aspects of the client.
  • Knowledge of various methods of psychological evaluation, including, but not limited to, conducting semi-structured diagnostic clinical interviews.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in oral and written forms.
  • Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of climbing, stooping, crouching, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, standing, walking, fingering, grasping, talking, and hearing.
  • Must be able to perform sedentary work exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift objects.
  • Must possess the visual acuity to perform extensive reading and determine the accuracy of work.
  • Must be proficient with computer systems.
