JOB TITLE: RAPE CRISIS CENTER – VICTIM ADVOCATE- Pender County (FULL – TIME)
LOCATION: On-site
CITY/STATE/COUNTY: Burgaw, NC – Pender County
SCHEDULE: Monday-Friday, 9am-5pm, 40hrs/wk
REQUIRED EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS
- Graduation from a four-year college or university in human services or related field.
- Preferably two (2) years of experience in counseling or working with victims.

Program/Department Name: RAPE CRISIS CENTER
Provides crisis intervention hospital response, follow-up supportive counseling, court advocacy and accompaniment and referral services to victims of sexual assault/abuse. Develops and presents victim outreach programs. Participates with other program staff to provide “on-call” 24-hour crisis intervention services. Represents program on community boards, committees and organizations. 40-hours/week, full-time position with benefits.
POSITION HIGHLIGHTS
- Provides crisis intervention and support services for sexual abuse victims.
- Identifies and assesses concerns of victims.
- Provides individual and group supportive counseling.
- Provides coordination of services with medical facilities, law enforcement agencies, the Office of the District Attorney and other community agencies when appropriate.
- Provides court advocacy for victims.
- Interacts with RCC volunteers to provide 24-hr crisis intervention services.
- Develops and presents victim outreach programs in the community.
- Performs related duties as required.
RECRUITMENT AND SELECTION GUIDELINES
- Considerable knowledge of crisis counseling methods and techniques specifically dealing with sexual assault victims.
- Considerable knowledge of laws and legal aspects dealing with and governing cases of sexual assault.
- General knowledge of the community and referral services and programs which work with crisis clients.
- General knowledge of different therapeutic approaches, group dynamics, and crisis intervention.
- Skill in establishing rapport with victims, law enforcement officers, judicial officials, and community and state agencies.
- Ability to consult with professionals and the general public on understanding and dealing with sexual assault cases.
- Ability to communicate effectively in person in written and oral form.
- Ability to express ideas clearly and concisely, as well as plan and execute work effectively.
- Ability to record concisely required documentation on each case and client contact.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, volunteers, supervisors, and the general public.
- Willingness to be on-call and available to sexual assault victims at flexible times and days.
- Must be able to physically perform the basic life operational functions of stooping, climbing, reaching, walking, fingering, grasping, talking, hearing, and performing repetitive motions.
- Must be able to perform light work exerting up to twenty (20) pounds of force occasionally, up to ten (10) pounds frequently, and/or negligible amount of force constantly to move objects.
- Must possess the visual acuity to prepare and analyze records and information, observe victim behaviors, do extensive reading and make appropriate documentation of work performed.
- A valid driver’s license and/or government-issued ID is required. Must have reliable transportation.
